Building your dream court can seem like a daunting task at first but Courts Unlimited will take care of everything.

Let's explore the process together.

Step 1: Preliminary Info

We start with a detailed walkthrough of your property to assess the best location for your court and any additional features you envision. From there, we reach out to your town to gather zoning information and a plot plan, ensuring that we can customize the project to your exact needs. In some instances, obtaining a variance may be required, which can take a bit longer than a standard permit. Rest assured, we will be with you every step of the way, providing guidance throughout the entire process..

We want to make sure you have a clear vision of what will be accomplished. Following this initial phase, we will explore options that align best with your preferences and putting it together for our contract. This includes:

Identifying ideal areas for the placement of your court
Assessing tree removal
Clearing existing structures or other adjustments need to be made
Deciding on paving requirements
Which sports you will be playing
Selecting which state-of-the-art surface is suitable for your chosen sports
Retaining walls, viewing patios, walkways or any other court accents

Step 2 : Choosing Your Court

Each and every court is different.

They have different bases, surfaces, dimensions, accessories, designs, color schemes, sport variations, playing styles and more.

HARD TOP

Hardtop asphalt is the most popular court surface. Reinforced concrete is also a common surface especially if your land is unstable.

CUSHIONED OVERLAY

High quality, all weather cushioned overlays are great for your joints and cover severely cracked and brand-new courts alike. We are one of very few companies certified in installing all surfaces available.

UN-CUSHIONED OVERLAY

Overlays are durable, permanent fixes for badly worn and brand new courts alike. Great for when you don't want the extra layer of cushion but still want high quality damage correction and protection.

HAR-TRU

Green dust a.k.a. Har Tru & clay are commonly used at country clubs but are perfect for residential too. They require yearly maintenance and are favored by professional players.

ARTIFICIAL TURF

Sand filled artificial turf is extremely durable, quick to install and lasts for decades with very little maintenance. Turf is very low impact while being great for a vast variety of sports.

INTERLOCKING TILE

A modular flooring system consisting of 1'x1' tiles often installed over concrete. Good for shuffleboard, large chess & checkers.

Step 3: Construction

Strip the area

First, we will clear the area of everything over the proposed construction area.

Drywells

Many towns require drywells to make sure there are no water runoff issues. Your local zoning department will let you know if these are needed.

Slope

Each court needs a flat and compact sub-base with a gentle slope for water runoff. The most important step in making sure your surface lasts.

Retaining Walls

Adding retaining walls, walkways, viewing patios, pergolas and more can all be done in house. Our masons can do it all!

Fence Polls

If you are adding fencing to your court, we will install the posts first and the mesh after the job is complete.

Install Base - Stone Dust

If you are building a clay or stone dust (a.k.a. "Har-Tru") court the sub-base will be compacted with stone. Some overlays are able to be installed over stone making it a more affordable and quicker to install without losing quality

Install Base - Concrete

Another option is a post tension concrete base. While this type of base is a much higher price point, it is the most durable and long-lasting base available. Plus, post tension allows for the surface to be free of pesky control joints.

Install Base - Asphalt

Our most common court base is asphalt. This type of base by is perfect for most every sport you could think of, is repairable and if done properly can last decades.

Asphalt Cure

Asphalt takes approximately 30 days to properly cure until it can be painted.

Lighting

Want to be able to play all day and night? We install a variety of different lighting systems tailored to which court you decide on.

Resurfacer

Resurfacer slurry sand mix is applied by hand with a large squeegee. This filled in any imperfections, creates texture and keeps the elements from harming your brand new court.

Paint

Making your court truly your own comes with the paint. Choose your single-tone or multiple color combinations. Custom colors are also available!

Prime

In order to get a perfectly straight line with no paint bleed, we prime the edges of the tape with a sealer.

Line Striping

Hand painting the lines makes for the most visually appealing and consistent ball bounce possible. Make your court multi-sport by adding each sports lines in contrasting colors.

Fencing Up

We install the rest of the fencing carefully after painting, making sure the color coating is perfectly applied and the fence is free of damage.

Finished!

All finished and ready to play!
