Knowing What Your Court Needs

Understanding what your tennis court needs is essential for maintaining its optimal performance and longevity.

It's important to know the type of court you own and how to care for it.
Asphalt is a tricky surface to mend with cracks and puddles able to arise anywhere & anytime.
Cracks, low areas and humps form from subsurface and root issues. Paint can peel and fade. Nature takes back over. Your court will need more serious repairs the longer you wait and may eventually need serious reconstruction.

Every 5-7 years a court should be inspected, maintained, resurfaced and color coated yearly visual inspections by the owner.
Along with all the same problems as asphalt, post tension concrete's biggest problem is efflorescence. As moisture migrates up to the surface of the concrete, it carries along with it calcium salts from within the concrete leaving an unsightly, chalky deposit. This degrades your court and stains the surface.

Every 5-7 years a court should be inspected, maintained, resurfaced and color coated along with yearly visual inspections by the owner.
Always remember to broom, water and roll your court. Clay/green dust are high maintenance and need care before and after every session.

Courts have a slight slope for natural water runoff but because of wind and water erosion, it levels itself out over time. Even when properly maintained, a court should be re-graded every 8-10 years.

Low spots around high traffic areas may need to be filled, line tape loses elasticity and need to replaced every 5 years and any sprinklers should be turned off/on for the season.

Although artificial turf is extremely durable, problems can arise just like any other court.
Tree roots can cause humps or tearing. The subsurface may settle making the playing surface uneven, requiring the turf to be lifted, filled in and re-seamed.

Depending on use, every 1-3 years a turf court should have sand added back into the surface. The surface should be regraded & compacted every 5+ years.

Depending on your area, it may be a good idea to spray some sort of weed killer a few times a year to prevent growth.
Interlocking tile courts have tons of tiny
areas that collect a lot dirt, allergens and debris.
Algae overgrowth and moisture can make the surface slippery and degrade the tiles and the surface.

Depending on the surroundings of your court, a cleaning should take place 1-3 years or as soon as you see a build up under the tiles.
Tiles are also subject to breakage and sun bleaching and can be treated, painted or replaced.
REPAIR OPTIONS
Below are a few of the wide array of repair and reconstruction services, ranging from minor fixes to comprehensive renovations:
Cover the entirety of a court adding protection, cushion and longevity.
Flexible Overlay Membranes
Overlay membrane systems
can be placed over:
Compacted stone or newly installed courts for a high quality and long-lasting surface. Some overlay systems feature levels of cushion that offer ease of play and protection for your joints.
Existing surfaces. After a court is far past its practical life limits, overlay membranes become the best options for permanent repairs and are more cost effective and longer lasting than ripping a court out and starting over.
